A friend and I decided to jump on board the Color Me Rad train and run the 5K this past weekend in Austin, and it was such a curious experience, I decided to document it while running. If you’ve never heard of this “race” – and I use the term very, very loosely – you start out wearing white clothes and people fling colored powder and liquids at you throughout the course, leaving you in a sort of tie-dye haze by the end.
At the start, all is white. The starting line, race ads…our shirts – blank canvases!
There were some cute get-ups, including the ones below.
Some people took advantage of the “color sales” to buy powder and pre-stain. We opted to wait and let things take their “natural” (?!) course during the run.
Covered up and ready to go! Here’s one person who might stay clean…
As you run along, there are different color areas through which runners dash (or stroll, as the case may be.)
First up was BLUE!
Loved this Marie Antoinette joggin’ along.
And this camera man, it looks like he’s tracking some Nat’l Geographic-worthy woodland creatures rather than insane people running through color bursts.
Then YELLOW! Liquid this time, I think I preferred the cornstarch concoction…
This dude was on a mission! Look at him flinging that pink powder!
Looking back on Pink-land after journeying through…
Then when you get to the finish line, everyone gets handed a packet of color and is supposed to madly fling it hither and yon.
Here we are, all colored up.
